Kendama Co Cares Initiative
At Kendama Co, we truly believe in the power of a values-based business. By looking to our vision and mission in everything we do, we are helping to associate the game “Kendama” with positivity and proactivity.
What is the Kendama Co Cares Initiative?
The Kendama Co Cares Initiative began out of humble recognition that business, including our own, can be used as a catalyst for positive change. Kendama Co is run by a group of like-minded individuals working together to accomplish the common goal of bettering the world through our craft and creativity. By supporting programs that address social and environmental issues, we execute our vision of empowering the community through Kendama.
What do we do?
We do our part to give back to the community in the best way we know how: spreading the goodness and positivity of Kendama. Workshops, lessons, strategic partnerships, and in some cases donations, are just a few of the ways we are able to accomplish this.
Which groups/businesses do we want to team up with?
The Kendama Co Cares initiative not only focuses on supporting local business in the Denver area, but also organizations across the country who embody the ideals of social and environmental responsibility. We want to partner with groups who promote the arts, education, environment, and general well being of our citizens.
The Kendama is an expressive art form, improves hand eye coordination, strengthens creative thinking, and acts as an outlet for stressful situations. Anyone who has played Kendama understands its ability to bring people together.
Kendama Co Cares Collaborators
Our buddy Patrick McGirr introduced us to Jordan and Doyle last year. The father-son duo founded Sox Place in 2002 with the mission to provide homeless and at-risk youth with the means they need to exit life on the streets. Doyle began his ministry by handing out socks to street youth on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver. He was soon given the street name “Sox” and opened up a daytime youth drop-in center shortly after. After taking a tour of the spot and the screen printing operation, we knew we wanted to figure out how to work together. We learned first hand that how much the young people truly appreciate the opportunity for some warm food and a safe place to hang out, as well as the mentorship and instruction in the trade of screen printing. On top of that, they make awesome, high quality apparel so you know that you’ll look just as fresh as you feel. AND (we know, it just keeps coming!) you’re helping us in supporting local business, which is awesome for so many reasons!
Founded in 1972 on the centennial of the first Arbor Day observance, the Foundation has grown to become the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, with over one million members, supporters, and valued partners. Their mission is simple: “we inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees.” At Kendama Co, part of our mission is “to cause no unnecessary harm”. Given that the Kendama is made of 99% wood, we felt that Arbor Day offered a perfect outlet for our customers to offset their purchase (and some!) by planting a tree. By supporting the Play One, Plant One ® campaign, you are helping to ensure that generations to come will be able to experience and benefit from our Nation’s forests. You can rest easy knowing your contribution will be directly helping to provide habitat for wildlife, clean air, stable soil and clean water for millions of Americans.
These are just our first two collaborations with the Kendama Co Cares Initiative. We’re constantly on the lookout for other cool businesses - if you have any ideas, reach out!
Finally, we want to say thanks to you, friend. We’re so excited to launch this initiative because we think it’s the best way we can spread the positivity of Kendama through the community and the world. While we are incredibly proud of our products, we know that we weren’t put on this planet to just to sell Kendama’s, but rather to help our neighbors near and far. Really, you’re awesome. *fist bump* Thanks.
